By now you will have heard of the devastation experienced as a result of the hurricanes that have ravaged Haiti.
The first hurricane Gustav hit Haiti with a vengeance, with the eye of the storm landing 10 miles to the west of Jacmel. Winds were as high as 165 km/hr bringing with them a deluge of rain. At least 10 ft. of water flooded the main streets of Jacmel, destroying vehicles, homes and food supplies. Now it is hurricane Hanna taking its toll.
The latest information coming from Haiti shows that there are many people as yet unaccounted for with several reported to have died. Most of the animals are missing and the gardens have been wiped out. The water supply is little to none and charcoal that is used for cooking and boiling the water has been washed away.
Communication is very sparse at this time with the mountain schools cut off from mudslides and washed out roads, but we do know that there has been damage done to some of our schools and that the Raymond school has been totally destroyed.
Many of the people in our project areas have lost their homes and everything they ever had, as little as it was. With the added devastating loss of food sources, the price of any food that is left will soon soar through the roof.
We can help! We have at least 200 families that have lost nearly everything and need our help desperately. For as little as $500.00 per family we can supply them with food, water, clothing, and building material to help them rebuild, and get back on their feet. We do not give them the money directly but rather the food, water and material for them to rebuild. This would also give us enough food to help feed hundreds of other families.
We still don't have reports in from our further outlying areas but all indications are that they too are in desperate need. We won't get an accurate count on how our children are doing until the middle of September when they come to register for school.
Till then, there is much to be done, and with your help we can raise the $100,000.00 needed for an emergency fund that can aid the families in our projects.
Look around your warm dry home, at your cupboards filled with good and healthy food, and at the abundance of fresh clean water available to you at the turning of a tap. Look at your own children or grandchildren, safely back in their modern schools, and think of the families that today are going without. Families who are struggling to survive this devastating disaster. Families who desperately need the help of their fellow man, in this their hour of need.
I ask your support in providing that help. If you or someone you know can help in anyway, no matter how big or small, together we can make a difference. Thank you to those that have responded even before this letter has been sent out. God bless you!
The quickest way for us to get support into Haiti is to make your donation out to “Glory Bound Ministries” and mail it to 1008 College Dr. SE, Medicine Hat, Ab. T1A 7J1 or phone me if you would like to make a donation on your visa, 403-502-5925.
Everyone that sends a donation will get a tax receipt at the end of the year and 100% of what you send will go to the Emergency Disaster Fund. When making your donation please make at the bottom left of your cheque it is for the Emergency Fund.
